WordPress Security Checklist for Business Websites

WordPress Security Checklist for Business Websites

Because WordPress is so popular, it is also a common target. Most attacks are automated and look for outdated software or weak passwords. A few habits close the door on almost all of them.

The checklist

  • Keep WordPress core, themes and plugins updated.
  • Use strong, unique passwords and two-step login for every admin.
  • Install plugins only from trusted sources and delete the ones you do not use.
  • Make automatic backups and store a copy outside the website server.
  • Use HTTPS everywhere and limit login attempts.
  • Give each person only the access level they need.

Plan for the worst day

Even careful sites can be hit. A recent backup and a person who knows how to restore it turn a crisis into a short interruption. Test your backup restore at least once.

Security is built into how we set up every site. On WordPress we configure updates and backups from day one, and for other platforms we apply the equivalent practices.

Frequently asked questions

Is WordPress safe for business?

Yes, when it is maintained. Most problems come from outdated plugins and weak passwords, not from WordPress itself.

What should I do if my site is hacked?

Change all passwords, restore a clean backup, update everything and scan for leftover malicious files. If you are unsure, ask a specialist before making changes.
