How to Set Up an Instagram Business Profile That Turns Visitors Into Customers

A new visitor decides in a few seconds whether your Instagram page is worth following. They look at the name, the photo, the short bio and the first nine posts. If those four things do not explain what you sell and why they should trust you, they leave. The good news is that a strong profile takes one afternoon to set up.

Switch to a professional account

Open settings and switch to a professional account, then choose Business. This unlocks insights, contact buttons and the option to run ads. Connect the account to your Facebook page so that ads and scheduled posts work from one place.

Name, username and photo

The name field is searchable, so include the main service next to your brand name. For example, a brand name followed by the words dental clinic or flower delivery helps people find you through search. Keep the username short, easy to spell and the same as on other platforms. Use your logo or a clear face photo, not a busy image.

Write a bio that answers three questions

You have only a few lines, so answer exactly three questions: what do you offer, for whom, and what should the visitor do next.

  • Line 1: what you do, in plain words, without slogans.
  • Line 2: proof or location, such as the city, years of experience or number of clients.
  • Line 3: a call to action, such as write to us to book a visit.

Link, buttons and Highlights

Use the single link field wisely. Send people to the page that matches your main goal, whether that is a booking form, a messenger chat or a catalogue. Add the contact buttons for phone, email and directions so that nobody has to search for them.

Highlights are permanent shelves under your bio. Create four to six covers with a consistent look, for instance services, prices, reviews, how to order and frequently asked questions. Many visitors open Highlights before they read a single post.

Prepare the first nine posts

Before you promote the page, make sure the grid looks intentional. Pin your three best posts to the top, such as a Reel that explains what you do, a post with customer proof and a post about your main offer. A visitor should understand your business without scrolling.

Frequently asked questions

Should I use a business or a creator account?

Most companies, clinics and shops should choose Business because it gives contact buttons and full ad tools. Creator accounts suit public figures and bloggers.

Can I write the bio in Armenian and English?

Yes, if you serve both audiences. Keep the first line in the language of most customers and add a short second line for the other.

How often should I change the bio?

Review it every few months or whenever your offer changes, for example for a season or a new service.
