Elon Musk has launched Grokipedia, a new online encyclopedia created by his company xAI. The platform is presented as Musk’s version of Wikipedia and aims to offer an alternative source of information that reflects his vision of truth and media transparency.
How Grokipedia Works
It currently hosts just over 800,000 articles, far fewer than Wikipedia’s 7 million. The design and structure are similar to Wikipedia’s minimalist style, featuring simple pages and reference sections. However, unlike Wikipedia, users cannot yet edit the content themselves. They can only send feedback if they find an error.
The articles on Grokipedia are written by Musk’s Grok AI, which is also responsible for checking factual accuracy. Musk explained that the goal of the project is “the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth,” adding that while it may not be perfect, the project will continue to improve as Grok evolves. He even mentioned plans to preserve copies of Grokipedia on the Moon and Mars.

The new platform has already sparked discussion. Many users noticed clear differences between Grokipedia and Wikipedia, especially in articles about Musk. Wikipedia describes him as a polarizing figure and highlights controversies related to misinformation and hate speech. Grokipedia, on the other hand, focuses on his influence on technology and his efforts to reform content moderation on X, citing sources such as Forbes’ billionaires rankings without linking to specific documents.
Criticism and Future Plans
Critics have expressed skepticism about the project’s reliability. Jimmy Wales, the founder of Wikipedia, said he doubts Musk can build a serious encyclopedia. He pointed out that Grokipedia relies heavily on artificial intelligence, which he believes is not yet capable of producing high-quality, trustworthy reference materials.

Despite the criticism, Musk says it will continue to grow and improve alongside Grok. “As Grok improves, so will Grokipedia,” he shared on X, adding that the project is designed to promote critical thinking and clarity in how information is presented.
While still in its early stages, Grokipedia represents Musk’s latest step in reshaping how people access and interpret information online.
