OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Atlas, a new AI-powered web browser that makes browsing more personal and interactive. Designed around the ChatGPT chatbot, Atlas lets users talk directly to the browser and get things done more easily.
A Browser You Can Talk To
ChatGPT Atlas allows users to communicate with the browser through voice or text. It can help with everyday online tasks like ordering food, editing documents, finding flight tickets, or checking emails.
Built-In ChatGPT on Every Page
Every webpage in Atlas includes a sidebar powered by ChatGPT. Users can ask it to summarise articles, compare products, or analyse data from any website. It can even edit selected text. For example, users can highlight an email and ask ChatGPT to make it sound more professional.

Smarter and More Personal
Atlas remembers your browsing context, making it easier to continue where you left off or get better recommendations. However, users are in full control of their privacy. OpenAI states that users can decide what Atlas remembers, manage how data is used, and adjust privacy settings at any time.
By default, browsing data is not used to train ChatGPT models. Users can also delete their browsing history whenever they wish. Those who enable Browser Memories allow ChatGPT to remember insights from their browsing, without storing exact copies of the content.
Availability and Platforms
The browser is currently available for macOS, with upcoming releases for Windows, iOS, and Android.
Competition in AI Browsers
OpenAI is entering a growing market of AI-integrated browsers. Google has already added Gemini AI features to Chrome, and Perplexity AI has its own AI-based browser. Following the announcement, Google’s stock dropped 4%, showing that investors see Atlas as a potential challenge to Chrome’s dominance.

The Future of Browsing
ChatGPT Atlas marks a new step in making browsing more intelligent and personalised. By blending an advanced chatbot with everyday web tasks, OpenAI is turning the browser into an active digital assistant rather than just a tool for searching.
